How To Brew Green Tea

How To Brew Green Tea

Green tea is known for its fresh, delicate flavour, but it can easily become bitter if not prepared correctly. Using the right temperature and steeping time is key to getting the best from your tea.

Water Temperature

Green tea should not be brewed with boiling water. Allow freshly boiled water to cool to around 70–80°C. This helps preserve the smooth flavour and prevents bitterness.

How Much Tea to Use

Use approximately one teaspoon of loose leaf green tea per cup (200–250ml of water). This allows the leaves to expand properly and release their flavour.

Steeping Time

Green tea should be steeped for 2 to 3 minutes. Longer brewing times can result in a bitter taste.

Using an Infuser

A good infuser or teapot allows the leaves to expand fully, improving both flavour and consistency.

Tips for a Better Cup

Always use fresh water and avoid over-steeping. Small adjustments to temperature and time can make a noticeable difference to the final flavour.
