How To Brew Loose Leaf Tea
How To Brew Loose Leaf Tea
Brewing loose leaf tea is simple and allows the full character of the tea leaves to develop. Unlike many tea bags, loose leaf tea gives the leaves room to expand, producing a richer and more aromatic infusion.
For a strong, traditional cup ,English Breakfast loose leaf tea works particularly well with slightly longer steeping.
Use Fresh Water
Always begin with fresh cold water. Re-boiled water can result in a flatter tasting tea.
Measure the Tea
Use approximately one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per cup. This allows the leaves to unfurl and release their full flavour.
Heat the Water Correctly
Different teas require different temperatures. Using the correct water temperature helps avoid bitterness and improves flavour.
Steeping Time
Allow the tea to steep for the appropriate time depending on the type of tea. Over-steeping can result in a bitter taste, while under-steeping may produce a weak infusion.
Use an Infuser or Teapot
A good infuser or teapot allows the leaves to expand fully, improving both flavour and consistency. Please take a look at a selection in our infuser collection.
